Precinct 8 Crash Team

The Precinct 8 "Crash Team" consists of highly trained accident reconstructionists. These team members are dispatched to scenes involving fatalities, serious bodily injury and other serious traffic accidents. Such scenes are meticulously recreated with the use of high tech equipment including a total station (an electronic/optical instrument used in modern surveying), a brake meter (instrument for measuring vehicle braking performance) and LIDAR (used for distance measurement).

Information gathered at these scenes is then used to recreate and determine the sequence of events leading up to and during the crash itself using advanced computer software. The Precinct 8 "Crash Team" trains monthly to maintain proficiency when they are called into action.
