Precinct 8 currently has two high water trucks for use during inclement weather and response to flooding. One is a 1978 Kaiser "deuce and a half" and the other is a 2020 Ford F-250. Both vehicles have seating in the beds for transporting passengers and are equipped with various types of rescue gear. During Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Deputies transported hundreds of area residents to local shelters after the storm devistated many neighborhoods throughout the region. Harris County formed a Water Rescue Group (task force) following Harvey, which is made up of law enforcement officers from the various Harris County agencies. Members undergo training in various specialties including boat operation, truck operation, swift water rescue and flood water rescue. When called upon, the task force can be deployed throughout the county to assist with rescue operations as needed.
