The Precinct 8 "Hot Spots" unit was formed to bring focused law enforcement attention to areas in the precinct that have been identified as high crime areas or areas where an increase in criminal activity has been occurring.
Once an area is identified, the "Hot Spots" unit gives highly focused attention to the area and ramps up enforcement until the activity is eliminated. This unit is comprised of Deputies from various divisions within the Department and they employ a wide range of tactics to get the job done.
Once intelligence is gathered on a problem area, the "Hot Spots" unit is activated and personnel are briefed on the particular situation prior to deployment. While not a full-time unit, this method of focused law enforcement has proven to be highly effective in eliminating certain types of criminal activity.
